Total solar eclipse, August 21, 2017. Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee, outside of Nashville. I don't have any pictures of the eclipse itself since my little iPhone read the sun/moon as a white blob. I had read a million things about it, and it was nothing like I could have expected. You had a sun, and an invisible moon, and then it was something that was neither a sun or a moon. A little black dot that looked like the deepest, darkest hole in the universe, surrounded by this gentle, pure white, cottony aura. It was a stunning sight, the experience of a lifetime. Perfect weather, perfect event. It did not even matter that there were 40 million people on the highways afterwards...the traffic jam was totally worth it.
The lovely campus of Cumberland U. It was freshman orientation day, and the green soon filled with hundreds of students, family, staff, and me.
I am looking at the same tree as in the previous photo. It is getting dark, just a few minutes before totality.
The eclipse thought the leaves.
On the left is the view of a residence hall at totality. Five minutes later, the same hall in full daylight.
