A trip to the Oklahoma City Memorial
The reflecting pool between the garden and the Museum. Beautiful, peaceful, terrible. A very thoughtful, moving experience at both the garden and the museum.
The memorial garden rests on the footprint of the actual building. You can see the walls at the far end and on the right...those were part of the actual building. Each chair represents a life lost. There are nine rows of chairs, one for each floor of the building. The chairs are situated as to about where the person would have been at the instant of the explosion.
Left--a view towards the east. Right--Facing northwest across the pool towards the museum. It was late afternoon on a Sunday. Those are ducks at the far edge of the pool. The museum took me about 2 hours to walk through...I was at the end of the day but could have easily have spent another hour there. There was a guard standing by the elevator when I walked out of the museum. She asked me what I thought of the place. I started to tell her, and without warning, burst into tears. It is that kind of place.
